Broken bodies

Dear Briggz,

The Oregon Coast brings us beauty, beaches, rough surfs, and most but not least Sand! I think that if I was given a place to pack up all my belongings and told to move, I may just choose the Oregon Coast. The winters are relatively mild. I will trade snow for rain, but the biggest thing is the beauty of the coastline. With every turn we made driving to our next site, more of this amazing coast presented itself. Beach homes built along the cliffs, with access to the beaches themselves.
The sun was back and we were intent of soaking it up. We only had three days to enjoy this section of the country. Our Campsite offered a lot of amenities, including a pool and hot tub. Tempted to just remain on site we felt that we should venture out to see what else this lovely part of the land had in store.
Sand Boarding was invented here in Florence, OR. Why not give it a go! Well, I’ll tell you why. While it was fun and we ended up with three pounds of sand in each of our shorts, a strained groin, sprained ankle and bruised/cracked rib later, I think we may have missed the boat on this activity.

We decided the next day to stick to something more our speed. Mom was able find the contact info for the Head ATC at the University of Oregon, Home of the Ducks and site of the most elaborate and over the top athletic facility I have ever laid eyes on. Of course having the creator/owner of “Nike” as an alumnus has given the university the ability to build a top notch venue, with more than enough bells, whistles and eye candy to lure any prospective athlete. I was in “HEAVEN” A back stage pass into the Athletic Training room, the therapy areas, the football stadium, soccer, and baseball fields. U. of Oregon has a new recruit. C took all of this in and is now filling out his application.  They even have a smoothie bar right in the athletic facility!!
On the way back to our campsite we absolutely needed, almost required, to make this next stop. Sweet Cheeks Winery, oh wait it does not stop there, it happens to be on Briggs Hill Rd. Well some cheese and a few glasses of wine later, mom is now a friend of the grape juice and me…just give me a straw and I can suck it down with the best of them.

We will miss the Oregon coast as we head South to California and the Redwood forest.

Love
            Dad
