Lewis & Clark

Dear Briggz,

Our travels have brought us fully across to the west coast. After Leaving Seattle we set up camp on a very historical place in Louis and Clark’s quest for the Pacific Ocean, Cape Disappointment, Located on the southern tip of Washington’s Long Beach area. From our campsite you can hear the roar of the ocean. A short walk through the woods and the Pacific Ocean is seen pounding the surf.
A great place to fly a kite or in J’s case drive his off road r/c car. Despite the lack of sun we were able to spend one day at the beach. We also took time to check out Fort Canby. The fort was one of several forts used to help protect the Columbia River during both world wars. We were able to walk around the barracks and see where the canons were housed. The Lewis and Clark center was packed with every encounter, journal entry, and discovery throughout the expedition. A and J both agreed that they learned more about Lewis and Clark in that one day then they ever learned in school.

Although most of our time on Cape Disappointment was gray and damp it did not disappoint. The sights of a harbor seal fishing several yards off the jetty or the waves crashing against the shoreline, along with the history lesson we all received, this area will remain memorable for us all.

Love,

            Dad
